SeaView Systems has developed a means of accurately measuring any ovality condition in a pipe by mounting a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) in an alignment frame that holds a profiling sonar as true as possible to the longitudinal axis of the pipeline. This frame also has four spring-loaded probes positioned vertically and horizontally. The probes have small wheels that run along the wall of the pipe and drive four indicators on a graduated “bull’s-eye.” This system provides mechanical verification of the recorded sonar data.
